My writer friend, Mary Nethery, has one of the biggest hearts for animals that I know. When she heard the story of an orphaned dog who looked after a blind cat in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she was compelled to share this story of friendship with children. Mary and her writer friend, Newbery Honor Medalist Kirby Larson, co-authored Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship and Survival. And if you, too, are an animal lover, you will certainly be touched by this story.
The book is illustrated by New Orleans artist, Jean Cassells, who sweetly captures the closeness of these two remarkable survivors. It’s no wonder the book was chosen as a Junior Library Guild Selection and Indie Next List: Top Ten Books of the Season.
Mary is having a book discussion and signing at Northtown Books in Arcata, California on Friday, August 8 from 6-9 p.m. where pets will be available for adoption as well.
