When I was a kid, my mom made sugar cookies. She’d cut them into bell shapes, star shapes, Christmas trees, snowmen, angels and reindeer. With the leftover dough, she’d form wreaths and candy canes. My brother, sister and I then decorated them with white, pink and maple-flavored frosting, and finished them off with sprinkles, walnuts and cherries. We’d compete to see who could make the prettiest cookie. But the best part was licking the frosting spoon and scraping the bowl clean.
