My friend Carol in Connecticut and her son, John, made jalapeno bagels from the recipe in the back of my multi-cultural book, Jalapeno Bagels. (Los Bagels, a local bakery, graciously allowed me to publish their recipe.) Carol substituted fresh red peppers chopped in a food processor “so they weren’t too hot.” Carol said, “They actually turned out and tasted good for our first try.”

John then took them to his 2nd grade class at Pomfret Community School. After reading the book, he shared the bagels with the kids. What a great way to extend the reading experience! Thanks for sending the photo!

Hint: They’re tasty with cream cheese and jalapeno jelly, too, for an extra kick.
