I teamed up with two writer friends to write an adventure novel for 8-12 year olds with cat characters set in Egypt. It’ll be fun, we told each other. A novel idea, a great writing exercise. We’ll channel our cats and write through them!
Years later we are still trying to sell our manuscript. With three writers and three agents, the story is having a hard time getting out of the gate. I read about other books with collaborators and wondered how they did it when ours seems to continuously stall. So I wrote an expert for advise. Here’s what Dear Editor had to say.
With so many cooks in the kitchen, it’ll take more work for this story to see publication. But the interesting thing is, it is forcing us to think creatively on how to package our team. Maybe I should ask my cat for advice.
