3 weeks until Xmas Eve!

Standard

Hard to believe, but there are only three weeks before Christmas Eve.

I confess: I like Christmas Eve better than Christmas Day. There’s something about the magicalness of anticipation: gifts wrapped waiting to reveal what’s inside, the tree sparkling at night with lights and ornaments with presents stacked at its base. And by the time Christmas Eve comes along, whatever you didn’t get done for Christmas, you may as well just resign to the fact that you missed the deadline and enjoy the evening – with a cup of spiked eggnog.

For those of you who are still trying to get Christmas done – and have the habit of putting things off until the last minute – have I got a book for you. The Night Before the Night Before Christmas is a children’s picture book, but it appeals to all ages. It’s about a family who’s rocket-sledding into the holiday while Mom has the flu. All appears to be total chaos until the family realizes what’s most important about Christmas.

Holiday Humor

Here’s a fun read for after the Christmas chaos where the overwhelmed mom is saved by Mrs. St. Nick.

To make you feel better, even Santa is under pressure at Christmas! How would you like to find out that you missed a whole city of kids and had to work your elves overtime to make toys? That’s what happens when Santa learns of the merchildren in The Legend of Christmas Island.

Kindle edition

We all start off the season with a Norman Rockwell or Martha Stewart image of how we’d like Christmas to turn out. But let’s get real and enjoy the holidays however we can with a sense of humor.

The Twelve Books of Christmas

Standard

Today I am beginning a blog series called “The Twelve Books of Christmas.” Each day from Dec. 1 to Dec. 12 I will showcase a book written by a Fort Collins, Colorado author. Please spread the Support Local Businesses love by purchasing a book by a local author at a local bookstore. That way your purchase will put a smile on everyone’s face.

Two independent bookstores that I recommend in Fort Collins are: Old Firehouse Books in Old Town, and Reader’s Cove on Harmony Rd. You can also find books at JAX Outdoor Gear on North College, Clothes Pony in Old Town, and the Northern Colorado Writers Studio at 108 East Monroe Drive
(Across from Tres Margaritas). Ask if they have any autographed copies in stock.

If you like art, then you’ll love…

How the West Was Drawn: Cowboy Charlie’s Art is a non-fiction children’s picture book for ages 7-12 (but actually for 7-107) that interactively looks at the art of Charles Marion Russell, famous American West painter/sculptor around the turn of the 20th Century. Questions encourage readers to see things casual viewers miss. A fun read for children and adults alike. It’ll keep the kids busy on Christmas day and beyond.

Linda L. Osmundson is the author of art, children, parent, Senior, teacher, newspaper, religious, travel, Chicken Soup and Family Circle articles. Her next book in the series, Frederic Remington’s Art, comes out February 2012. Visit Linda’s website for more information.

Holiday Book Signings

Standard

Signing my books at Jax Outdoor

I’ve got a bunch of book signings lined up for this holiday season, so if you’re looking for personalized gifts for your kids, friends, or to donate to your school or library, please stop by and I’d be happy to sign my books.

I have to tell you about this one signing I’m most looking forward to. Each year a local realtor gives her clients’ children a gift, and this year she is giving each one a copy of The Night Before the Night Before Christmas. I will be attending her Christmas party and doing a private reading for 50 to 100 children in her home (how fun!), then Santa will give each child a book and I will sign it especially for them. Can you image being a kid and getting such a special gift? I want to publicly thank Janell for understanding the joy a book brings to children and inviting me to be part of her holiday event, and supporting a local artist and independent bookstore.

December Book Signings:

Saturday, Dec. 3, 1:00, Presentation on An Eye for Color: The Story of Josef Albers, Barnes & Noble on S. College in Ft. Collins during their Educators Day

Thursday, Dec. 8, 4:00-6:30, Barnes & Noble at Centerra Shopping Center in Loveland

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 4:00-7:00, Barnes & Noble at Centerra Shopping Center in Loveland

If you cannot attend any of these signings, but still would like an autographed book, I know Old Firehouse Books at 232 Walnut St. in Old Town has copies on hand (or could order them for you) and I’d be happy to sign them. (My books are also available through this site. Just click on Books above to call the titles up.)

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported me throughout my career and shared their stories of how my books touched their children’s and students’ lives.
